Expanding Expertise in ESi's Civil, Structural Practice

ESi announces three new senior leadership appointments, which will serve to further extend the depth and breadth of key capabilities in its growing Civil, Structural, and Environmental practice. Joining the team are Macan Doroudian, Ph.D., P.E., G.E., Philip Shaller, Ph.D., P.G., C.E.G., and Pravi Shrestha, Ph.D., P.E., D.WRE, D.CE. All three are Senior Managing Consultants based in our Southern California office.

“Macan, Philip, and Pravi are established leaders in their respective fields,” said Chad Fischer, ESi Principal and Director of the Civil, Structural, and Environmental practice. “Individually and collectively, they bring a wealth of experience, which will significantly enhance our capabilities to meet the needs of our government, institutional, and private clients. Natural disasters have devastated many areas of the country, and we’re strengthening our ability to help clients plan for and respond to critical infrastructure evaluations from geotechnical, geologic, and water resources perspectives.”

Dr. Macan Doroudian brings over 20 years of experience in the fields of geotechnical, foundation, and earthquake engineering. His technical knowledge and skills have made him a key resource for clients on a broad array of projects, including geotechnical and ground motion assessments for earthen dams, stabilization of large landslides, moisture intrusion through slab-on-grade concrete floors, failure analysis of earth retaining walls, soil erosion associated with landfill cover, construction vibration monitoring and assessment, pipeline failure investigation, and field and laboratory investigations. He currently serves on the ASCE KSTAT Standards Committee and as a part-time faculty at UCLA. Dr. Doroudian has authored or co-authored over 30 publications and presentations.

Dr. Philip Shaller brings over 25 years of experience in engineering geology, with significant expertise in the assessment and mitigation of geologic hazards, including landslides, debris flows, alluvial fan flooding, post-wildfire flooding hazards, and expansive and collapsible soils. He has consulted extensively on high profile projects across the globe, including geological and geochemical investigation of the Ka Loko Dam failure in Hawaii, numerical modeling of the La Conchita landslide in California, investigation of damaged infrastructure and ground deformation in the Imperial Valley following the Mexicali earthquake, investigation of a potentially life-threatening landslide at the Matahina Reservoir complex in New Zealand, and geologic feasibility and risk assessment of a pipeline installation through the Niger Delta. Dr. Shaller has authored or co-authored over 60 publications and presentations.

Dr. Pravi Shrestha brings over 30 years of experience in water resources and environmental engineering, including analysis and mitigation of flood hazards, alluvial fan flooding, open channel flow, pipe flow, hydraulic structures, post-wildfire flooding and erosion, and investigation of landslides, dams, and levees. Well-regarded for his expertise in hydrodynamics and sediment transport, Dr. Shrestha has consulted nationally and internationally on the development and application of fate and transport models to various surface water bodies. Dr. Shrestha currently serves as an Associate Editor for the ASCE Journal of Hydrologic Engineering and for the Journal of Coastal Research. He also serves on several task committees. Dr. Shrestha has authored or co-authored over 100 publications and presentations.

“California’s 2017 wildfires and subsequent debris flows and floods in 2018 caused devastation across our state,” said Kristina Cydzik, Senior Consultant & Manager of California Operations. “Our expanded team is highly experienced in the analysis and mitigation of natural hazards, including those associated with post-wildfire landscape changes. Our clients now have access to an even deeper pool of talent in this area – whether they need help assessing damages, mitigating risks, or developing recovery plans following natural disasters.”
