Senior Staff Consultant – Polymers – 4215 Campus Drive, Aurora, IL, 60504, 40 hours per week

DUTIES: Work in the area of polymer characterization, product failure analysis, fractography, mechanical testing, long-term creep and fatigue testing of polymers, and chemical compatibility testing of polymers. Responsible for execution of technical projects, performing testing using various polymer characterization equipment as well as providing technical reports. Conducts and directs laboratory analysis using optical microscopes, scanning electron microscope, differential scanning calorimeter, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) microscopy, and Thermogravimetric Analysis. Performs technical analysis, calculations, testing and research. Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project, and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel. Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority. Conduct technical analysis and investigations pertaining to materials with a focus on polymer science. Technical evaluations and testing focused on product design, manufacturing, material selection, and chemical compatibility and long-term material properties. Coordinates project activities with staff and clients, with proper internal reviews. Works with Marketing to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base. Plans activities of large and small scale client projects related technical subjects in support of industrial consulting projects, insurance investigations, litigation analysis and support.

REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Master’s Degree in Polymer Science, Materials Science, or a related Engineering degree and 3 years of forensic engineering professional services experience. Must have 3 years of experience conducting and directing laboratory analysis using optical microscopes, scanning electron microscope, differential scanning calorimeter, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) microscopy, and Thermogravimetric Analysis.  Must have 3 years of experience preparing technical reports, providing professional opinions and advice for clients, or others regarding material chemistry, material characterization, chemical analysis, thermal analysis and processing techniques.  Must have 3 years of experience with technical modeling software, such as Mathcad, AutoCAD, or a similar program.  Must have 3 years of experience applying industry standards, chemical analysis, mechanical testing, and service life predictions of products.  In lieu of a Master’s Degree and 3 years of experience, ESI will accept a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience as stated above. Travel up to 30% of the time may be required. Must have legal authority to work in the U.S. EEOE.
