Dr. Felicia L. Svedlund is a Senior Consultant at ESi. Dr. Svedlund has over 13 years of broad experience in the realms of materials science and engineering, biomaterials, and biomedical engineering and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in the development and application of medical devices. Dr. Svedlund’s expertise encompasses the design, testing, and manufacture of medical devices and the materials from which they are constructed; failure analysis and non-destructive examination of medical devices and the multi-factorial assessment of their performance; and evaluation of medical device design, testing, manufacturing, risk management, postmarket surveillance, and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with Quality System Regulation (QSR), U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) requirements and guidance documents, and consensus standards, such as American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and International Organization of Standardization (ISO).

(ESi), a leading provider of failure analysis and technical consulting services, today announces the acquisition of KARS’ Advanced Materials, a full-service materials testing laboratory and technical consulting firm based in Anaheim, California.  This acquisition enhances ESi’s current capability offerings and will help meet growing demand in the region, particularly in the areas of materials, mechanical and electrical engineering. KARS’ founders, Dr. Ramesh Kar and Dr. Naresh Kar, collectively bring nearly 80 years of failure analysis experience, serving clients across a wide breadth of industries.

Dr. Joseph Lawrence specializes in the engineering analysis of combustion, thermal, and fluid processes, specifically regarding the origin, cause, and propagation of fires and explosions. Dr. Lawrence has investigated fires in a wide range of applications including residential structures, internal combustion motor vehicles, hybrid motor vehicles, outdoor maintenance vehicles, watercraft, battery packs, and rail transport applications. These investigations included fire cause and origin determination, burn pattern interpretation, and evaluation of ignition mechanisms.

ESi’s team of fire protection engineering consultants has extensive experience in the evaluation and application of fire protection systems. With practical experience navigating the inspection, testing, and compliance of fire protection systems, building and life safety codes, and building construction, ESi enables clients to identify and understand the effects of a fire protection system failure in causing or contributing to a catastrophic event.

His experience spans the full lifecycle of these vehicles, including research and development, diagnostic and performance analysis, risk assessment, and failure analysis. Mr. McCulla also has significant experience in project management.
