This is ESi’s first time to be recognized with the GLOBE Award.

Home › News › Brickman presents on bunk bed child entrapment hazardOn October 9, 2023, ESi Principal Dennis Brickman presented important research on bunk bed entrapment hazards at the XXXVth Annual Occupational Ergonomics and Safety Conference in Munich, Germany. The peer-reviewed paper, titled “Residential Bunk Bed Child Entrapment Hazard Safety Test Methods,” was co-authored with Joseph Mohorovic, Anne Mathias, and Erick Knox, and details the investigation of a fatal accident involving a two-year-old child, who became entrapped between his bunk bed and the bunk bed ladder at his home in Ohio.

Home › Work › Fall from a Multi-Story BuildingA woman attending an event at a hotel went over a railing on a spiral staircase, resulting in a three-story fatal fall to the basement. Eyewitness testimony was inconsistent regarding whether her initial location was at the very top of the staircase or several steps down. ESi needed to evaluate the physical evidence of the geometry of the staircase, the railings, and her final location to determine what fall scenarios could be consistent with the laws of physics.

Home › People › Joseph V. JordanJoe Jordan is a Senior Staff Consultant for Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) with over 20 years of aviation experience. He specializes in investigating aircraft accidents, examining aircraft systems, and assessing maintenance standard of care. Prior to joining ESi, Mr. Jordan spent the past decade as a Maintenance Test Pilot and managing an Authorized Service Center for Cirrus, Cessna, Piper, Mooney, Continental, Lycoming, and Williams International. He also worked directly for Cirrus as a Field Support Representative to help owners and operators manage their aircraft operations and maintenance. Mr. Jordan is experienced with piston, turbine, and jet aircraft and engines.

Dr. Svedlund has over 13 years of broad experience in the realms of materials science and engineering, biomaterials, and biomedical engineering and possesses a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in the development and application of medical devices. Dr. Svedlund’s expertise encompasses the design, testing, and manufacture of medical devices and the materials from which they are constructed; failure analysis and non-destructive examination of medical devices and the multi-factorial assessment of their performance; and evaluation of medical device design, testing, manufacturing, risk management, postmarket surveillance, and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with Quality System Regulation (QSR), U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) requirements and guidance documents, and consensus standards, such as American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and International Organization of Standardization (ISO).

Information collected included geometry data acquired at the scene with a FARO laser scanner, physical characteristics of the child, medical injury data, and photographs of the child and scene.
