Douglas J. Barovsky, P.E., CFEI

Mr. Barovsky is an electrical engineer with over two decades of experience, including 14 years in the aerospace sector with seven years as a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Designated Engineering Representative (DER). He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) and a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (CFEI). Mr. Barovsky specializes in fire origin and cause investigations, including fire scene inspection, excavation, evidence identification, recovery and preservation, and analysis of fire debris. His experience also includes fire and explosion investigations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings, vehicles, motor homes and marine vessels, electrical/electronic design, product failure analysis, and government regulatory compliance. He has experience investigating aircraft accidents and component and system failures.

Prior to joining ESi, he spent over 15 years with The Boeing Company where he was responsible for reviewing and approving airplane type design data. He also developed and managed certification programs to identify requirements and objectives for successfully demonstrating compliance to the applicable domestic and foreign airworthiness standards. Mr. Barovsky conducted failure analyses including, fault hazard assessments, failure modes and effects analyses, fault tree analyses, and numerical probability studies. He has tested and evaluated failed hardware and systems to resolve manufacturing, maintenance, and continued airworthiness issues associated with aircraft electrical and electronic component systems. He also aided in digital and analog circuit design, and established component and system design requirements.
