ESi Welcomes Torrence Welch, Ph.D.

Atlanta, GA (Apr 14, 2020) – We are pleased to announce that Torrence Welch, Ph.D. has joined ESi’s Biomechanics and Safety practice as a Sr. Managing Consultant in our Atlanta, Georgia office. Dr. Welch is a highly qualified biomechanical engineer with a strong record of accomplishments helping clients understand the biomechanics of human injury -- both in responding to a specific incident or event, and in the development and implementation of measures that promote safer work environments, practices, procedures, and products. His expertise spans a wide range of areas related to injury biomechanics, including occupational safety, premises liability, slip-trip-and fall events, and vehicle accident investigation and reconstruction.

“Torrence is a welcome addition to our technical leadership team,” said Will Pinkston, ESi President and Chief Operating Officer. “Torrence has a unique background in the sense that he’s able to speak to issues of both injury biomechanics and accident reconstruction, and uses that knowledge to help clients understand what happened during an incident, how the injury occurred, and how to mitigate the risk of those types of injuries going forward. He is also skilled at distilling complex technical concepts into practical recommendations -- a talent which will be invaluable to our clients as they determine what to do now, next, and for the longer term.”

Before joining ESi, Dr. Welch was a Principal Consultant at Rimkus Consulting, where he was responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in the areas of workplace injury, premises liability, and vehicle accident reconstruction and injury analysis. During his tenure there, Dr. Welch helped clients across both the private and public sectors, and served as an expert in hundreds of legal cases and insurance claims. He also helped train and mentor other consultants in the firm and was instrumental in the development and launch of a full complement of CE/CLE courses in topics related to biomechanics and injury causation.

“Now more than ever, I’m excited to be joining the team,” said Dr. Welch. “ESi is well-known for its unwavering focus on safety, and its ability to deliver a rapid and well-coordinated response in a crisis. Their ability to draw from such a deep bench of expertise across many different disciplines will be a huge asset to clients trying to safeguard and de-risk their operations, while maintaining continuity in the face of uncertain times. I’m looking forward to being part of this effort."
